Volunteer Opportunity - OUT TO WIN LGBTIQ+ Campaign & Candidate Training – ASL Interpreter

DESCRIPTION

ProudPolitics is a multi-partisan organization which aims to diversify the face & voice of Canada's politics by increasing the number of openly LGBT officials at all levels of government.  This year we are hosting  2018 Out To Win,  a non-partisan LGBTIQ+ candidate and campaign training for aspiring and current LGBTIQ+ and ally candidates and civic leaders, their campaigns teams, and friends and family.

We are looking for 2 volunteer ASL interpreters to assist one of our guests during this event.

TIME & COMMITMENT

Where:   Ryerson University - Faculty of Community Services - 99 Gerrard St. E., 6th Floor, Toronto, ON M5B 1G7 

When:    Saturday, February 10th, 2018

Event Time: 9am - 4pm

Volunteer Hours:   Shift 1: 8:30am to 12:30pm OR Shift 2: 12:30pm to 4:30pm

RESPONSIBILITIES

This volunteer position assisting the hearing-impaired or deaf understand what is being communicated, either in a group setting or one-on-one.

REQUIREMENTS

What we’re looking for someone who:

-Understands the subject matter so he or she can accurately translate what is being spoken into sign language

-Has strong skills in both English and sign language 

-Strong listening, research, memory and sign language skills

-Experience interpreting & conveying messages to the hearing-impaired or deaf

-Certification is not required but is preferred

DRESS CODE

The conference itself is business casual attire, therefore, volunteers will be required to dress accordingly.
